summer youth fellowship 2025

We are offering paid summer fellowship opportunities to high school and college-aged applicants. Fellows will work to develop creative ways to make criminal justice information more accessible to diverse communities. Fellows will help research and draft a report (with the support of their supervisor) on young people at Rikers. Fellows will also help create a short video on the need to close Rikers from a youth perspective, with the help of a video production team and their supervisor.

Throughout the fellowship, you will attend workshops learning about the history of Rikers and how the fight to close down Rikers and improve public safety connects to other issues in the community (mental health, housing justice, education justice, etc.). You will meet Commission members, community leaders, and have the chance to go on site visits to deepen your knowledge. Other research and drafting opportunities may also arise.
